Lanzhou Jiaotong University

Lanzhou Jiaotong University (LZJTU) (formerly Lanzhou Railway University) was established in 1958 through the combination of departments and sections from two highly reputable Chinese railway institutes: Tangshan Railway Institute (the present Southwest Jiaotong University) and Beijing Railway Institute (the present Beijing Jiaotong University). In April 2003, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the name of Lanzhou Railway University was changed to Lanzhou Jiaotong University. After 50 years of construction and development, LZJTU ranks as a comprehensive university with catachrestic in engineering but coordinated and balanced multidisciplinary development in the fields as natural science, liberal arts,, economics and management.

LZJTU now has 3 campuses that cover an area of 258 acres . It has 20 schools, 1 teaching department and 4 postdoctoral research centers. There are 34 doctoral degree programmes, 105 master’s degree programmes,63 undergraduate programmes, 19 provincial-level key disciplines, 2 national experimental teaching demonstration center, and 1 national University Science and Technology District. The university currently has a faculty of 2277 educational professionals，including 1,455 full-time teachers. Among them there are 786 professors and associate professors. The university's current enrollment totals over 30,000, including 22400 full-time undergraduate students, 3119 postgraduates and over 20595 participants in continuous education courses. The university has over 200 international students coming from different countries as Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Korea, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Yemen, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Mongolia, Laos, Vietnam, Rwanda, Sudan and so on. The library holds 2.22 million volumes.
